Cyberpatriot Team Finishes First in State
A Waubonsie Valley Cyberpatriot team took first place in the Silver Tier in the state of Illinois. The team is comprised of Evan Keegstra, Neel Parikh, and Neelay Ranjan. The team will now move on to the Semifinal Round of the national competition.
The Cyberpatriot competition simulates real-world cybersecurity scenarios and requires students to find and fix weak security policies within Windows 10, Windows Server 2019, and Ubuntu 20 operating systems. Teams must also complete a Cisco Networking quiz and build a simulated network using Cisco Packet Tracer. Teams have a 6 hour window to complete all of these challenges.
There are 3 Tiers in the competition: Platinum, Gold, and Silver. Placement into a Tier is based on the teams performance in the rounds leading up to the State round.
This is the first year Waubonsie Valley participated in the Cyberpatriot competition and had 2 teams. The other team, which competed in the Gold Tier, consisted of Rami Nasser, Rahul Patel, and Eric Prakash and finished 10th in their Tier.
Cyberpatriot, which is now in its 14th year, was created by the Air Force Association's National Youth Cyber Education Program. Major sponsors of the program include the Northrop Grumman Foundation, the Center for Infrastructure, Assurance, and Security (CIAS), AT&T, Boeing, CISCO, the Department of Homeland Security, and Microsoft Azure.
