WV Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Oct 8th
On Friday October 8, 2021 the Waubonsie Valley athletic department will induct 3 new members of into the WV Athletic Hall of Fame: Luke Wigtil (Coach), Paul Blalock Class of 2005 (Football & Basketball), and Jared Brownridge Class of 2013 (Basketball). There will be a reception in the south endzone starting at 6pm and the honorees will be recognized at halftime of the varsity football game.
LUKE WIGTIL – COACH (Class of 2013)
In 1988 Coach Wigtil made his way to ‘The Original Valley’ where he served as an Assistant Track Coach for two years before being named the Head Coach of the girls' track program in 1989. Luke Wigtil served as the Head Girls' Track Coach from 1989 until 2000. During Coach Wigtil’s career at Waubonsie Valley he also was an Assistant Girls' Cross Country coach from 1990-1998. As the Girls' Track Coach, Luke Wigtil compiled a record of 93-35-2 with 145 individual conference champions, 5 team conference championships, 128 individual state qualifiers, and 14 All State athletes.
PAUL BLALOCK – FOOTBALL & BASKETBALL (Class of 2005)
During his four years at Waubonsie Valley, Paul Blalock competed in football all four years (2001-2004), basketball all four years (2001-2005), and track one year (2002).
In basketball, Paul was a three-year varsity starter where his teams held a 65-18 record, 2 Regional Championships, and a Conference Championship.
In football, Paul was a three-year varsity starter and was a three-time All-Conference selection at quarterback. Paul’s senior year he was named: all region – Super Prep & Prep Star, all state by Champaign News Gazette, all state by Illinois High School Coaches Association, all State special mention by Chicago Tribune, and named the Naperville Sun player of the year. Paul’s Senior season he passed for 2,130 yards and 15 touchdowns. Today, after seventeen years, Paul still holds 7 school records!
During Paul’s college career he competed at the University of Illinois 2005-2006 and from 2007-2009, he competed at Northern Illinois University where he received his BS in Communication. Paul then went on to receive his law degree from University of Wisconsin.
JARED BROWNRIDGE – (Class of 2013)
Jared Brownridge was a three-year Varsity starter at Waubonsie Valley High School and led the team in scoring all three of those seasons. Jared was a three-time Upstate 8 All Conference recipient and Co-MVP of the Upstate 8 Conference his senior season.
Jared was a sharpshooter from long range and holds multiple school records. He has the most 3-pointers in a game with 8. He holds the record for the most 3s made in a career at Waubonsie Valley with 203 three-point field goals and is currently 2nd all-time in scoring at WVHS with 1,608 points. He was selected to the 1st team Beacon News and Daily Herald and 3rd Team All-State his senior season. Jared was a team captain in both his junior and senior seasons.
Jared accepted a scholarship to play at Santa Clara University in California, which plays in the West Coast Conference (WCC). Jared had a tremendous career at Santa Clara, both academically and athletically. Jared was a four-year starting guard and was a three-time first team All-West Coast Conference player. He was one of only four players in school history to earn All Conference for three straight years. Jared left Santa Clara ranked 2nd in all-time scoring with 2,313 points and 4th in the history of the WCC.
After graduation, Jared played overseas in Italy for one season. The next three seasons for the Delaware Blue Coats (Philadelphia 76ers G-league team). He played in the NBA summer league in 2021 for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
