College Scholarship InformationScholarships are merit based financial aid. They are monetary awards that do not need to be paid back. Scholarships are usually based on academic ability, athletic ability, special interests and skills, ethnic background, religious background, or field of study. There are a variety of sources of scholarship funds including universities/colleges, professional organizations, unions, parents employers, community, civic, and religious groups, local businesses and corporations, fraternal groups, and veterans posts. The universities/colleges to which you are applying may require you to fill out an application for scholarships that is separate from your application for admission. As scholarship opportunities are mailed to WVHS, lists of scholarship information are posted on the Guidance Web-site, in English classrooms, the Guidance Office, and the Career/College Center. Some applications may be available in the Guidance Office. If a scholarship listing indicates that a nomination is needed, students should submit their names to their guidance counselor.
