Victorea Quinton-Hairston selected for GLSEN National Student Council
Waubonsie Valley High School Senior, Victorea Quinton-Hairston was selected to be on the GLSEN National Student Council (www.GLSEN.org). The NSC is a council comprised of 18 LGBTQ+ identifying youth from all over the country. Victorea traveled to New York City this summer for a 4 day training summit.
This year, Victorea will be working with the NSC all year to produce content that will positively affect the lives of LGBTQ+ students. She will specifically be working on two year long campaigns (one about institutionalized racism and the other about improving Gay Straight Alliances). She is also working with council members on a day of action campaign for No Name Calling Week.
Victorea says "The summit was an amazing opportunity for all of us to come together and bond." The students on the committee also had the opportunity to meet community leaders and even Dyllon Burnside from the show Pose.
The WV GSA is proud of Victorea! What an incredible honor to have a Waubonise Valley High School student working to support LGBTQ+ students at the national level. We can't wait to get back to work at WV!
