PSAT Student Guides and Room Locations for 9th-11th Graders

Reported by webmaster@ipsd.org on 10/3/17

On Wednesday, October 11th, the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) will be administered to all 9th, 10th and 11th graders at Waubonsie Valley.

Students and families can access a detailed PSAT Student Guide provided by College Board by visiting this link https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/official-student-guide-psat-nmsqt-2017.pdf. If students would like a hard copy of this resource they may pick up a booklet from their class house. Additional PSAT practice can be found online through Khan Academy at www.khanacademy.org.

The school day has been adjusted for testing, beginning at 7:25 AM and concluding at 12:30 PM. Buses will depart at 12:40 PM. October 11th is a non-attendance day for seniors who are encouraged to use the day for college and career exploration. Registration for the PSAT/NMSQT is taken care of here at school and there is no cost to students for testing.

The PSAT/NMSQT assesses reading, writing, language and mathematics reasoning focusing on knowledge and skills predictive of college and career readiness and success. This testing experience will help prepare students for the experience of taking the SAT, which they will be required to do in the spring of their junior year. Additionally, juniors may qualify for entry into national scholarship programs through the PSAT/NMSQT. Students are also encouraged to go online to https://www.khanacademy.org/sat for additional test preparation resources related to the PSAT.

Students should make sure they are prepared for testing by:
• Getting a good night's sleep and eating a nutritious breakfast.
• Being on time for school. Testing starts promptly at 7:25 AM.
• Keeping cell phones & electronic devices (including wearables) in their lockers or leaving them at home.
• Bringing two #2 pencils, a calculator, student ID, and a healthy snack to testing.
• Ensuring they bring a charged Chromebook for post testing activities.

This is a tremendous opportunity for our students. It's a checkpoint along a very important journey heading toward the opportunities that lie beyond graduation. Students’ scores will be available through their College Board accounts in December. Students new to PSAT testing are encouraged to create a College Board account using their personal e-mail address. Students will receive more information about how to create their College Board accounts at school. A message will be sent out when scores are posted to student accounts. Please contact your student's school counselor if you have questions regarding the PSAT/NMSQT.

Testing room assignments will be posted throughout the halls, on Waubonsie’s websites and social media accounts.
