SchooLinks for Seniors: Scholarships, Mid-Year Reports & FAFSA
Seniors, have you logged into SchooLinks recently? If not it’s time to sign back into SchooLinks, our online college and career planning tool. SchooLinks can be found from the Single Sign On or student splash page, WaubonsieStudent.org. SchooLinks will be an important tool for finalizing your post-secondary plans, sending mid-year reports, keeping your counselor informed and finding ways to pay for your continuing education.
Scholarships: Green & Gold Awards
SchooLinks is the central location for all scholarship information that comes through Waubonsie Valley. When you click on the “Finances” icon and select “Scholarship Matching”, SchooLinks will show you a list of scholarships both local and national. Many of our Green & Gold scholarships, including the PTA, Sports Boosters, IPPC, IPEA, & Wheatland Athletics, along with local scholarships from the Rotary Club, Exchange Club, Illinois Principals Association, Naperville Newcomers, Aurora Actionaires, Cress Creek Garden Club, DuPage Farm Bureau and so many more are now posted. Deadlines are approaching and new scholarships are added weekly, so check back often.
Students will also be able to track and send mid-year reports using SchooLinks. If you requested your initial transcript or school report this fall via SchooLinks (this includes all Common Application requests), a mid-year request is generated automatically in SchooLinks (for the schools that require a mid-year). Your counselor will send the mid-year transcript (report) once it becomes available. Further, if you applied via Coalition website, your counselor will send those requests as well.
It is extremely important that you check SchooLinks to make sure this request is in for the colleges that need a mid-year transcript. The directions below will show you how to check if the request is in. Also, you can go back around mid February to see if the mid-year has been sent.
To verify a mid-year request is in SchooLinks and to track if it is sent:
1. Log into SchooLinks via your Single Sign On (SSO).
2. Click on Colleges at the left, then College Applications.
3. Click on the green “Track” button at the lower left.
4. Then look for your college in either the “In progress” column or the “Completed” column.
5. Click on the college that you are wanting to check.
6. If the college is in the “In progress” column, once you click on your college, look at the right-hand side to see the status of the mid-year report (see picture linked below).
7. If your college is in the “Completed” column, once you click on your college, you will have to then click on, “Go to application details.” Look at the right hand side to see the status of the mid-year report, just as described in step 6 (see picture linked below).
8. If, after going through these steps, you do not see a request, and you need one, please email your counselor.
Updating Your College Admissions Decision
As you begin to hear back from colleges, your counselors want to be here to support and celebrate with you. From the “Colleges” -> “College Applications” page, please update your “Application Results”. We ask that students let us know whether you have been accepted, waitlisted or deferred from each college you applied to this year. This information will help let us know where to send your final transcript but will also help Waubonsie gather information that will help future Warriors as they apply to college.
FAFSA Graduation Requirement
NEW FOR 2020-21 The State of Illinois now requires all Illinois public high school students to complete either the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) or the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid (Alternative Application) as a prerequisite to receiving a high school diploma. For students who choose not to file an application, a waiver may be completed by their parent/guardian and scanned/e-mailed to the student’s school counselor. Waubonsie Valley receives confirmation of your filing but does not have access to the information that you provide. If you have filed, no further action is needed. To date 63% of the senior class has completed the FAFSA requirement.
If you haven’t yet filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Alternative Application, and would like assistance doing so, consider watching a replay of our fall financial aid presentations or reviewing the posted slides (Presentations Available Here ).
Further assistance with filling out the FAFSA is also available from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission by visiting www.ISAC.org or calling 1-800-899-4722. Visit this link for information that you will need in order to complete the FAFSA.
Be sure to reach out to your school counselor with any questions or needs you may have as we move closer to the end of senior year.
