Self-defense classes & Ink180

This past Monday and Tuesday, the Rape Aggression Defense classes in PE hosted a guest speaker. Chris Baker, the owner of Ink180 in Oswego, came to discuss human trafficking and how it impacts our community. Chris's non-profit involves giving sex trafficking survivors the choice of tattoo removal or cover-up for free. In the past 8 years, he has performed 5,700 removals or cover-ups. He has worked with federal, state, and local law enforcement to help survivors in the first step on their journey to recovery.

Did you know...

The average age someone enters human trafficking is 13.
The vast majority of survivors were not kidnapped, but lured into human trafficking.
Social media is one avenue traffickers will use to lure victims.
Human trafficking is in our community.
The average age a child sees pornography for the first time is 8 years old.

R.A.D. is a quarter long course taught by certified instructors. There is a classroom and physical defense portion. The students are currently in the classroom portion and have learned about consent, dating violence, sexual assault, victim-blaming/shaming, the power of words, messages in the media, and internal voice. The students will finish the classroom portion learning about risk reduction techniques.
