Model UN Wins Awards at GBS

Reported by stephanie_stevens@ipsd.org on 4/11/19

This past weekend, Saturday, April 6, 2019, the Waubonsie Model UN team competed at the Glenbrook South High School Model UN conference. There were over 500 high school delegates working to solve world issues. WVHS students represented the member states of the United Nations and debated international issues. The simulations involve delegations of students who work with one another in their respective committees to produce mock resolutions on global issues. The students must employ diplomacy, critical thinking and global problem solving to be successful.

This year our delegates represented the countries of Brazil, Netherlands, South Africa, and Uganda and did a fantastic job.

The following delegates earned the following prestigious awards:

Honorable Mention:
Ms. Aishani Shulka representing Netherlands on United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)

Ms. Francesca Abruzzo representing Netherlands on United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)

Ms. Alejandra Campillo representing Brazil on the Disarmament and International Security First Committee (DISC).

Ms. Montse Cuetos representing Brazil on the Disarmament and International Security First Committee (DISC).

Ms. Anvita Agrawal representing Portugal on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

Verbal Commendation:
Mr. Aditya Anand representing Brazil on the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

Mr. Kevin Cong representing Brazil on the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
