WV World Languages Week

Reported by on 1/8/19

Today kicks off WV World Languages Week: “Languages are the key to the world!” Today is dedicated to American Sign Language. ASL is a complete, complex language that employs signs made by moving the hands combined with facial expressions and postures of the body. ASL is is derived from French Sign Language, which is very different from British Sign Language. Overall, there are 300 different types of sign language used throughout the world today! ASL follows different grammar rules than spoken English and is used by the Deaf community in the United States and English speaking parts of Canada. Stop by room 249 to see WV students using ASL!
